Please share a memory of Rosemary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sister Rosemary {Jordan} Bass Mims In the still of the morning as the day passed by, God thought in His infinite wisdom there is my daughter, Momma Rose. She has served me well, without question, without doubt and without any fear. But now I see she is tired, and her spirit is drawing near. Then God said, “Come home my child, come home! You have fought the GOOD fight, you have kept your strong faith, fix your wig and come on home!” So, on Wednesday January 5, 2022, at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, The Lord took his daughter, Rosemary Jordan Bass Mims home to be with Him. Rosemary Bass Mims was born as the third child of the late Willie Jordan Sr. and Queen Mother Alice Turner Jordan. Born on a beautiful sunny day on December 3, 1949, Sis. Rosey, as she was affectionately called, is sister to the late Mary E. (Late Maxwell Sr.) Taylor, Willie (Peggy) Jordan Jr., Dr. Kathy E. (Rev. Dr. Al) Sharpton, Richard C. Jordan, Russell J. Jordan, Kimberly A. (Kenneth) Jackson and Carissa S. (Anthony) Jordan, she was also the PROUD Auntie to the Jordan, Taylor, Bass, Mims, Jackson, Holmes, and Pressley Clan! Rosemary gave birth to two beautiful children: William C. (Sharon) Bass II, and Nicole P. (Fred) Bass and her bonus children Katina May, Kenya (Dan) Harrigan, Rafikka Bass, Jodi (Lamar) Mackey and the Late Great SSG Aram Bass. God Later blessed Sister Rosey to meet the love of her life Tyler Mims, affectionately known as Papa and her “Barry White”. Together the crazy couple raised not only Woody and Nici but a host of children within the community. She genuinely believed in the saying “it takes a village”. Rosey was the immensely proud grandmother to Earl F. Bass, Jessica T. Hunter-Bass, Patrick Cray, Ka-Shara M. Jordon, Crayuana L. Page, Jordan W. Bass, Craisuanda C. Page, Christina Cray, Jeremiah X. Bass, NeddaeVion Parmer, Dwon Daniels Jr., and Ava Aram Daniels. Soon Baa turned into BaaBaa, which her great-grandchildren – Jayce Aram Bass, Christopher Michael Jenkins III, Jourdyn RoseAlise Nicole Terrell, Grayson Khalil Bass and Willow E’Yuana Scarbrough whom she adored called her. Sister Rosey is a graduate of the Niagara Falls High School Class of 1968. She then later attended Niagara County Community College and earned certificates in various New York State Offices of OMRDD and Empire State College. She was employed by Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara for 40+ years as a Day Habilitation Specialist working with her consumers, a place she NEVER considered employment but her second home. So much so that she often opened her doors to her consumers over the holidays. Rosemary also spent her time as a Voting Inspector for the County of Niagara since the 80‘s with her Mr. Bill, Aunt Ruby, Minister Charles and Nicole. When she was not working in her community or spending time with her family, Maa’s lifeline was at St. John where she spent much of her time being a Lifetime member of St Johns AME Church, where she LOVED and SERVED. Rosemary served as President of the Lay Organization, Gospel Chorus and Combined Choirs. She was a member of the Official Board, Sunday School, Stewardess Board and PME of the Althea Davis Missionary Society, Hospitality Culinary Committee since the age of nine, Chat n’ Chew Seniors Program and co-founded with her Kimmee the “HELPS Ministry”, a ministry that provided spiritual and physical food free of charge each month to those in the community who needed it. One of Rosemary’s greatest ventures was the famous Baa’s Catering Inc. Where she was Owner and Operator since 1998. Sis. Rosey was also a volunteer at the Niagara Falls Housing Authority Family Resource Building since its inception where her love for people and community grew. Her hobbies included giving back to her community, spending time with Special needs Adults, spending time with the youth singing and listening to her Gospel and Oldies but Goodies, working in her garden and weekly games of BINGO, Phase 10 and Pokeno. God was truly the Joy and Strength of her Life, He brought her from a 60’s free spirit to a woman seeking to honor and serve her Master, His people and her community. She enriched the lives of anyone she encountered, she fed the masses and was a light to this world just as our Savior. Maa was a perfect example of a giving heart and a missionary. As she always would say, “I thank you for this honor and privilege to pray so I can let my little light shine brightly for the Lord. Agape.” Baa, that little light shined and now glows in your heavenly transitioning. Along with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and siblings, she leaves to mourn her nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends; Rev. Lora Allen, L’Tanya Bitting, Janice Bradberry, Lolita Johnson, Eloise Ralands, Ruby Turner, Elder Irene Wilson, Evangelist Ruby D, McCoy, Katricia Houser, Esther Trammell, Kelly Brown, and Vivian Rivers. Her special daughters Kimberly McCoy, Monique Sykes, and Jody Toni. The Family would love to extend a special thanks to Dr. Shannon and Simmone Palmer for the many years of love, care, and support, for the Staff of the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center 3rd Floor Heart Unit, Tiah Agee-Jackson, Dr. Chaudri and Dr. Zubair Shaikh for all of their love and care of our beloved Mother during her time in the hospital. The exceptional care you all gave our mother was hands down superior and we are so grateful. Maa is in her glory singing in the heavenly choir with her Parents Willie Jordan Sr. and Queen Mother Alice T. Jordan, her eldest sister Mary Emma Taylor, her husband and the love of her life Tyler “Barry White” Mims, and brothers in-love Elmore “Dick” Mims and Carl Lee Pressley. As well as her godson Chuck Brundidge and close friend Ms. MaryAnne. Baa/Maa is truly in her glory with her sidekick the late great Murlene Smith cooking in the heavenly kitchen. She has put on her robe and made it over, she is deservedly wearing her crown. Job Well Done! The funeral will be held 12:00 pm on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at St, John AME Church, 917 Garden Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Makeeda Brooks officiating.
