Obituary of Helen Churakos

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Churakos, our loving mother, has gone to join our father George in watching over the family from above. Not one to shy away from anything, she went from bingo in her 70's to bean bag champ, climbed into a racecar at Ransomville speedway to volunteering as a dunk tank target shooter. She then graduated to 4 wheelers and jetboats in her 80s and 90s. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was a loving and nurturing Yia-Yia who had the patience of a Saint. From her loving smile, to her whole hearted laugh, she radiated positivity, love and warmth to all who she met. Yia-Yia's Greek meatballs were the best and loved by all. She leaves a legacy of love, pride, wisdom and the ability to roll with anything that came her way in the 92 years God blessed us with her. She was truly a woman of faith and was devoted to her church. This was shown through her hard work and dedication at the Peach Festival souvlaki tent, basket auctions and other church functions. She was even granted the nickname, "Energizer Bunny." Mom will surely be missed by her loving brother Lous (Vera) Poulos of Alberta Calgary. She was proud of her sons Ted, Tom (Linda), Chris and daughter Tina (David) who was there for her any hour, any day until she passed. Her grandchildren, Tom, Jeremy, Shawn, George, Jason, Alicia, Amber, Taylor and Christopher were the loves of her life. When her great-grandchildren came along, Mom's love went to another level. Lyndsey, Sierra, Christian, Arayah, Matti, Tyler, Brianna, Nick, Kaitlyn, Katelyn, Dominic, Evan, Ivan, Audrey, Lillian and Carter, all brought her so much joy and happiness. She enjoyed each and every one of them. In the last two years of her life, she was blessed with a great-great grandchild, Isla, who she held and gave her loving smile to. Along with her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from her church, she will be sadly missed. As she joins her parents, Thomas G. & Christine (Vozikas)Poulos; sisters Rosie (Sam) Aquila, Shula (Louis) Christakos and her brother George T. "Teeker" Poulos, we are all sure the family reunion will be passed on to us through the beauty of our surroundings. It cannot be emphasized enough what a wonderful person our mom was. She will always be in our hearts and soul until we are privileged to be with her again. Thank you, mother. Always our love, forever.
