Obituary of Myrtle Neufeld

Myrtle Alice Blabey Neufeld, 99, of Lewiston, New York, went peacefully to her rest on April 23, 2018 in Lewiston. She was born May 28, 1918 to Luke and Martha Giles Blabey near Dauphin, Manitoba, Canada. Myrtle attended nursing school at William Mason Memorial Hospital in Kentucky, received her diploma in nursing and became an R.N. in 1942.

She married Raymond Diedrich Neufeld on August 25, 1946 and they had four children, Betty Rae, Robert, Patricia, and Henry. She was a lifelong learner, taking on the study of Biblical Hebrew and Greek after retirement in order to enhance her study of the scriptures, which was one of her great joys. She is the author of one book, Directed Paths, which relates stories of God's care and guidance in her life. She has left material for another book on her medical experiences over nearly a century, which will be published posthumously. She was a teacher, both of children and youth and of nursing students, and was beloved by those she taught.

She and her husband, Ray, dedicated their lives to serving others by providing medical care in underserved areas in the United States and Canada, including Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Washington, Tennessee, and Georgia. They also spent time overseas, in Chiapas, Mexico for four years and Georgetown, Guyana, South America for seven years.

Along with numerous other family members, Myrtle was an Amateur Radio operator, callsign WB7OIU, earning her Conditional license in about 1973 and her advanced license in 1975. In 2008, at the age of 90, she earned her Amateur Extra class license. She was a regular participant in local radio nets and club meetings in the Niagara Falls area.

Myrtle is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, and her sister Alma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray, seven of her nine siblings, and her grandson, James Webb.

Donations in her memory may be made to Adventist Frontier Missions, P. O. Box 286, Berrien Springs, MI 49103, with a memo, "In memory, Myrtle Neufeld.".
